Making of Story: Tyvek Hand-Stencil Series
This week's Making of Story introduces the production process of the "Tyvek Hand-Stencil Series." This series includes the "Tyvek Cushion Case" and "Tyvek Utility Pouch," both available in beige (light gray) and navy blue.
Incorporating Childhood Memories into Design
Do you remember drawing on wet window glass with your finger as a child? This cushion case design is infused with that nostalgic story. The image of YUM and POM drawing on the window with their fingers served as the inspiration for this design.
Artistic Processing with Stencil Technique
Artists meticulously apply designs using the stencil technique, one by one. They use a spray that strongly adheres to the Tyvek material, ensuring that the design stays in place and lasts. The stencil's original data is digitized from hand-drawn sketches by the artist, using Photoshop and Illustrator.
The earliest rough sketches by Yusuke Toda. At this stage, the focus is on direction rather than precision or accuracy of shape.
The final data, which was refined through dozens of iterations, including adjustments to the droplet effects to resemble those on a window.
Tyvek: Innovation and Key Features
Tyvek® is an innovative non-woven material developed by DuPont in 1967. Made from fine polyethylene fibers compressed together, Tyvek offers a lightweight yet highly durable solution that excels in water resistance and windproof properties while still being breathable. This unique combination of features makes Tyvek highly valued in outdoor settings.
One of Tyvek’s standout features is its water resistance, allowing it to block even the smallest droplets while still enabling the passage of gas molecules. This makes it ideal for keeping out external moisture and rain while preventing internal dampness, thus providing comfort and protection. As a result, Tyvek is widely used in outdoor gear such as tents and weatherproof clothing, as well as in medical protective clothing and moisture barriers on construction sites.
Additionally, Tyvek is made from 100% high-density polyethylene (HDPE), making it a recyclable and eco-friendly material. In the construction industry, it is often used as a waterproofing membrane or insulation material to enhance building durability. Its paper-like texture has also gained popularity in the design world, where it is utilized for creating art, fashion, and various design applications.
With its combination of lightweight structure and strength, Tyvek can withstand high humidity and harsh weather conditions over extended periods, making it a highly regarded sustainable material.
A Perfect Companion for Summer Outings
The "Tyvek Hand-Stencil Series" is an ideal item for summer outings. It is lightweight, easy to carry, and durable. Why not add it to your summer essentials?
